Bratislava, Slovakia – January 2018 – On 8 January, the liturgical memorial of Blessed Titus Zeman was celebrated for the first time. Masses in his honor were celebrated in the Salesian chapels and churches, in the birthplace of Blessed Zeman in Vajnory, and in other locations throughout Slovakia. Many local people participated in Vajnory, some in traditional clothes, as well as pilgrims and religious who wanted to pray before the relics of the blessed. (ANS – Rome) – Monday 8 January marks the first liturgical celebration in the Memory of Tito Zeman, beatified in Bratislava (Slovakia) on 30 September 2017. The date coincides with the dies natalis of the new blessed who died in hatred of the faith at age 54 on 8 January 1969 in Vajnory, a suburb of Bratislava, where he was born on 4 January 1915.
On 25 November at the Casa Madre of Valdocco, the Salesian Circumscription of Piedmont and Valle d’Aosta organized a spiritual retreat, open to all Salesians, centered on the figure of Blessed Titus Zeman, and were guided in meditation by Fr Pierluigi Cameroni, Postulator General for the Causes of Saints of the Salesian Family.
(ANS – Ostrava, Czech Republic) – The International “Festival dobrých správ” (of Good News) honoured a short film about the life of blessed Titus Zeman SDB. The video entitled “Titus Zeman – a martyr for spiritual freedom to follow oneʹs vocation” was first place in the category of short films under 15 minutes and takes a closer look at the heroic sacrifice of the Salesian.
On Tuesday, October 10, at the Basilica of the Sacred Heart in Rome, a solemn Eucharist of thanksgiving was celebrated for the beatification of Fr Titus Zeman, Salesian priest and Martyr, which took place in Bratislava, Slovakia, last 30 September.
